The project, scheduled for completion for summer of 2009, is valued at 95 million dollars. It involves widening the existing 1,325-ft 5-lane structure to include a third northbound lane providing an enhanced traffic flow into Trenton. The bridge will be totally rebuilt from the top of the piers up, in three major stages. The existing steel deck beams and other structural components will be refurbished, cleaned, and repainted.
Garden State received distinguished award from ACEC and was responsible for:
- Design of a falsework system suspended from the existing pier over the water that will support all construction activities such as crane loading and traffic loading
- Analysis and demolition of existing steel structure throughout all phases of construction including traffic loading,
- erection design, and calculations
- Design of jacking system for existing girders for self-weight, construction loading and tributary traffic loading
- Design of temporary structures throughout all phases of construction
- Complete surveying services throughout all phases of the project such as horizontal and vertical control, as-built surveys of existing structures, and construction layout
